The 2020 Distinguished Education Partnership of the Year Award has been awarded to T-Mobile with input and deliberation from the staff at WABS and the Board Executive Committee.
Each year, WABS highlights one partner for the Distinguished Education Partnership of the Year Award that we present at the Showcase of Success. The award is presented to organizations and companies that demonstrate a commitment of time, talent, and resources to help further WABS’ mission of ensuring that each and every student graduate career and college ready.
T-Mobile has been an incredible partner, providing over 800 students, this year alone, with the opportunity to visit the Tech Experience Lab and Business Operations Center on field trips with funding from T-Mobile Foundation. Students also engaged in follow-up calls from engineers to the classrooms after the trip to ask questions.
Additionally, T-Mobile plays a key role in our joint partnership with Edmonds School District, and Edmonds College that expands the talent pipeline through a dual internship model where underserved students will complete a post-secondary certificate and get a competitive edge in tech. The Technology Career Acceleration Program (TCAP) will allow student participants to apply as a full-stack developer, one of the highest demand fields in the tech industry. This work has been spotlighted as a promising practice, and the state has invested close to $200,000 in the project, launching with our first cohort in Summer 2020.
T-Mobile volunteers are also active participants in the ACCESS STEM program to support teachers with industry expertise, as well as for our After School STEM Academy working directly with elementary and middle school students on hands-on STEM challenges.
