WABS and The Boeing Company have partnered to engage students in hands-on STEM activities

Now in its eighth year, The Afterschool STEM Academy promotes hands-on STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) learning experiences in an afterschool environment. Using activities designed by local teachers, Boeing engineers volunteer their time to lead activities that reinforce STEM concepts to students in grades 4-8.

Each quarter, volunteers spend six weeks leading one-hour student sessions. Students have an opportunity to work in teams to solve real-world math problems, design and build products and troubleshoot issues along the way. Boeing volunteers share their experiences from the workplace and relate them to the activities so students learn first-hand how engineers work, think and interact in real life.

In the Winter 2013-14 session, 188 Boeing engineers participated in the program.
