After School STEM Academy: Teachers

Register Now for Winter Session

The goal of the Virtual After School STEM Academy is to give students exposure to industry professionals, to learn about STEM careers and career pathways, and to engage in fun, hands-on learning that helps build 21st Century skills. WABS is a nonprofit collaborative of school districts; each district that is a member of our collaborative pays a small membership fee to have access to our programs. This makes up a small part of our budget – the rest made up of foundation and corporate grants. Thus there is no cost to the school, teacher hosts, or the student participants.

WABS provides:

  • Curriculum and materials kits for students (Materials are provided in individual materials kits. Anything unused will not need to be returned.)
  • Industry volunteers to facilitate the sessions
  • Training for industry volunteers prior to facilitating the sessions

Teacher Host Responsibilities:

  • Choose 6 dates to host a 1-hour, live virtual session after school
  • Recruit students, mixed-grade ok
  • Facilitate student pickup of individual materials kits (provided by WABS) at the school before sessions begin (extra kit included for teacher host)
  • Set up virtual conferencing platform being used in your district for the 6 sessions and provide links to students & volunteers
  • During the sessions, the teacher host must be present to help with technical support, student management, and to support the industry volunteers who are facilitating the activities. Teachers may need to run the powerpoint presentation for volunteers depending on district technology permissions.
  • Volunteers will be provided with materials, curriculum & accompanying powerpoint to use during the sessions, along with volunteer training.
